Yes, AI helps you present ideas.
And, AI helps you create content faster.
But if you use AI to write your content, you will get less traffic in most cases.
Let me give you some statistics…
AI vs humans
What we found with AI is that it can’t just generate content that you can publish and be off to the races.
It still takes time to get used to AI.
From revising the content to inserting it into your CMS to adjusting the format, creating content takes time, whether you use AI or not.
Here’s how long it takes to create content using humans vs. AI.
When using AI we found that you can write content, post it to the CMS, and publish it within 16 minutes.
Humans, on the other hand, took an average of 69 minutes.
But there are some issues which most people do not talk about.
The first is that AI takes whatever is on the web and “regurgitates” the same old information.
People want to read something new…
Second, we found that human-written content outperformed AI-generated content in 94.12% of cases.
But if that doesn’t convince you why you should be wasting time using AI to create content, check out this experiment we ran.
traffic over time
We decided to run an experiment.
We took 68 websites and generated 744 articles. Half with AI and half by humans.
For both batches, we conducted keyword research and tried to target keywords with similar keyword difficulty and similar length in content.
On a side note, if you’re having difficulty getting the AI to write articles at the length you want, just ask them to write sections at a time.
After that, we posted articles on these 68 websites, and we monitored the average amount of organic SEO traffic that each post produced over time.
See the results.
By the 5th month, an AI article was generating 52 visitors per month while a human-written article was generating 283 visitors.
Now I know what you might be thinking…
“Neil, it is easy to produce content with AI, even if it generates less traffic, just produce 10 or 100 times more articles and you will have more traffic overall.”
Well, there is an issue with this.
If you put up too much low-quality or average-quality content, you will find that your overall site traffic and rankings decrease.
The last time we cut and trimmed our content we saw about an 11% to 12% increase in traffic.
Just look at what happened to About.com when they took advantage of the same strategy.
Now if that doesn’t reassure you, maybe this will reassure you.
See how much traffic is generated per minute spent.
Either way human content is giving better results.
But, I hate writing, therefore I prefer using AI…
If you want to use AI to help you create your content, by all means, go ahead.
But I suggest you heavily modify it.
The integration of the appropriate keywords is one area where an AI writer can be useful, at least in terms of SEO.
This way you can rank for the right terms and create content that generates traffic.
So here’s how I would use it if I was going to use an AI writer.
Step 1: Go here.
Step 2: Please enter your keyword and click to “Start Writing Now”.
Step 3: Select a title that matches the article you want to create.
Step 4: Select the introductory paragraph that most closely resembles what you are trying to write.
Step 5: Select the titles that seem most relevant to you. Tool to select titles that also contain keywords.
Step 6: AI Writer will create content for you. This will give you a good start.
Now go and modify it completely.
Make it your own, add in the E-E-A-T, and talk about new things that other people aren’t sharing.
Where we use AI
When it comes to content writing the biggest area where we use AI is not the writing part.
This is part of the research.
For example, at NP Digital we used AI to help UTI increase its traffic.
Instead of having AI write a ton of content, we leveraged it to help us do research for all the cities where UTI has campuses.
This allowed us to measure the build of their local pages, and ensure the quality was high by including data, statistics, and other elements that would be useful to someone doing a local search.
conclusion
AI can be used to help you, the point is that most marketers are relying solely on it to create their content for them.
AI is great, but it doesn’t exist to do everything for you yet.
And even if AI is perfect, if it doesn’t talk about something new that people haven’t seen before it won’t produce the results you’re looking for.
So, you are using AI for creating content?
