ByGoogle has issued a new search spam update today, the June 2024 Spam Update. Google wrote that this spam update could take up to a week to complete.
This is a general spam update and Google won’t say anything more about this update. Google later told us this is not an algorithmic version of the site’s reputation abuse policy enforcement. Google told us this link is not related to spam either.
A week to roll out. June 2024 Spam Update Released. The rollout may take up to 1 week.
Spam updates. Google linked to their standard spam update document that reads:
While Google’s automated systems for detecting search spam are constantly working, we sometimes make notable improvements to the way they work. When we do this, we refer to it as a spam update and share it in our list of Google Search ranking updates when it happens.
For instance, SpamBrain is our AI-driven spam prevention system. Periodically, we enhance this system to improve its ability to identify spam and to ensure it can detect new forms of spam.
Sites that see changes after the spam update should review our spam policies to make sure they comply with them. Sites that violate our policies may rank lower or not appear in results at all. If our automated systems learn in a matter of months that the site complies with our spam policies, making the change may help the site improve.
Regarding the link spam update, which specifically addresses link spam issues, implementing the changes may not necessarily result in an improvement. That’s because when our systems remove the effects of spammy links, any ranking advantage previously generated for your site by the link is lost. Any potential ranking advantage generated by those links cannot be recovered.
Previous spam updates. The last spam update occurred on March 5, 2024, and was named the March 2024 Spam Update, it was completed on March 20.

Why we care This is our first Google Search algorithm update since the big March 2024 Core Update and Spam Update. It’s unclear what type of spam this targets, but if you see any ranking changes in the coming week, it could be related to this spam update.
