KB5052090 (Build 26120.3360) brings new features to Windows 11 in the Dev and Beta channels

Microsoft has introduced visual changes to the Lock Screen, Task Manager, and File Explorer for devices included in the Dev and Beta channels.

Microsoft has now started rolling out Windows 11 build 26120.3360 (KB5052090) to the Dev and Beta channels of the Windows Insider program. This update adds new features and improves existing features, which is part of the development to version 24H2.

As per the company notes, Windows 11 update KB5052090 now gives users the option to control the widgets that appear on the lock screen. Task Manager will now calculate processor utilization in line with industry standards and third-party tools. Additionally, a “Share With” option has been added to the File Explorer context menu.

Additionally, the update brings improvements to File Explorer, Taskbar, Remote Desktop, and Settings.

The following changes are made in the latest preview update:

Customizable lock screen widgets

With the KB5052090 update, Windows 11 is now making changes to the “Lock Screen” Settings page, removing the “Lock screen status” setting and adding a new setting called “Your widgets.”

You can show or hide widgets on the lock screen by turning this setting on or off. Once you open Settings, you can add, rearrange, and remove widgets.

Now not only widgets related to weather, watchlist, traffic, and sports, but also many other widgets can be visible on the lock screen.

In addition, Microsoft has added a new “Disable Widgets On Lock Screen” policy to the Group Policy Editor, allowing administrators to control this feature from the Computer Configurations > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Widgets section.

What is special about the new update of Windows 11?

New feature rollout

This feature is being gradually rolled out to Windows Insiders in the European Economic Area (EEA). However, you can enable it manually also. For this, use ViVeTool and run the following commands:

New CPU logic in the task manager

Task Manager has received a new update so that CPU usage information will now be shown as per industry standard. Now the CPU load will be uniform on all pages.

If you want to see historical CPU values, you can enable the “CPU Utility” column in the “Details” tab.

“Share with” option in the context menu

Now when you right-click on a file, you’ll see a new submenu called “Share with”. With this, you can share content directly with supported apps.

Bug fixes and other improvements

This update fixes several issues for devices included in the Dev and Beta Channels:

✅ File Explorer: “Home” was not loading and was only showing “Name” text, fixed.

✅ Taskbar: Fixed issue with underline stuck under app icons.

✅ Remote Desktop: Fixed freezing and frequent disconnects.

✅ Settings: Fixed an issue where crashes and error messages appear during launch.

✅ Other: Fixed duplicate Windows boot entry and spinning mouse cursor in OneDrive file resume.

Additionally, Microsoft has also mentioned some known issues related to Recall, Click to Do, Windows Search, Task Manager, and File Explorer.

How to install new updates?

If you want to download and install this Windows 11 build, follow the following steps:

1️⃣ Go to Settings > Update & Security.

2️⃣ Enroll your device in the Dev or Beta Channel of the Windows Insider Program.

3️⃣ Go to the Windows Update section and turn on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option.

4️⃣ Click on the Check for Updates button and install updates.

Microsoft has recently announced that devices included in the Dev and Beta Channel are now being given the development preview of Windows 11 24H2. However, a preview build 22635.5015 has also been made available in the Beta Channel for users with 23H2.
